The proof is in the pudding. A 2009 report from the U.S. Department of Education titled Evaluation of Evidence-based Practices in Online Learning, found the following:
- •Students who took all or part of their class online performed better, on average, than those taking the same course through traditional face-to-face instruction.
•Studies in which learners in the online condition spent more time on task than students in the face-to-face condition found a greater benefit for online learning.
•Most of the variations in the way in which different studies implemented online learning did not affect student learning outcomes significantly.
•The effectiveness of online learning approaches appears quite broad across different content and learner types.
•Online learning can be enhanced by giving learners control of their interactions with media and prompting learner reflection.
Those are a few study results that might make prospective students' parents sit up and take notice.
In fact, Switched-On® from Alpha Omega Publications® includes a wide variety of media-rich courses centered upon the Bible. Engaging students with interactive elements, Switched-On appeals to all students, including auditory, kinetic, and visual learners.
Online learning is a new way of learning that works for a today's generation of students. It saves your teachers time by placing more learning where it belongs, in your students' hands. Empowering students, Switched-On allows advanced learners to move forward and at-risk learners to catch up without holding the rest of the class in limbo.
What do you think? Are the parents at your Christian school skeptical of online learning, or do they embrace it?
