Every fall students across the world gather around their school's flagpole to pray to God for their country, for their school, for their community, and for their needs. This annual Christian event was started in the 1990's by several Christian students in Texas. See You at the PoleTM (SYATP) has since exploded into an international movement through word of mouth and promotion by youth groups and churches.
Held every fourth Wednesday in September both in the United States and in many countries, SYATP was observed by over 2 million U.S. students in 2005. Because the event is student-initiated, public schools, along with Christian schools, are able to participate constitutionally as long the event is held during non-school hours and is not endorsed by the school. As a form of freedom of speech, SYATP allows students the ability to express beliefs through prayer, song, and biblical readings on their local campuses.
This event is an opportunity as Christian educators and teachers to support our Christian students in their faith. Teachers and administration are also welcome to participate at SYATP to stand alongside in their students and join in expressions of devotion and lift up request to the Lord. This year, See You at the Pole is scheduled for Wednesday, September 22, 2010. You can find more information on See You At The Pole at their website.
