Voddie Bauchman and Bruce Shortt tried it again. Their initial efforts in 2004 were soundly defeated and highly criticized, but their tireless efforts have never waned due to their uncompromising convictions. Now, four years after their initial resolution, they tried it again—only this time, they targeted the state of California.

They attempted to introduce yet another resolution at the 2008 Southern Baptist Convention but were once again silenced. The resolution called for churches "to work vigorously as a mission effort to encourage and support the expansion in California of (1) Christian schools, (2) homeschooling and homeschool co-ops, and (3) alternative models for providing Christian education." It continued by asking churches to communicate repeatedly with California parents, pastors, and Christian California school employees about (1) what has been done to California's public schools by Senate Bill SB777 and its related legislation, (2) what that legislation means for California's children, families, churches and culture, and (3) what Christian educational alternatives are available." In essence, they were calling on the church to support the removal of Christian children from the California public school system and to provide viable Christ honoring options for their parents.

Phyllis Schaffley, founder and president of Eagle Forum, has now joined the ranks with Bauchman and Shortt. In the past, her organization firmly supported the reform of public schools rather than promoting alternatives. With the onset of the passage of SB777, she felt compelled to join those calling for a boycott of the California public schools.

At Alpha Omega Publications®, we are humbled to be able to offer churches an economical and academically sound program for the education of children. With our Switched-On® electronic curriculum and our Horizons and LIFEPAC® paper-based curriculum, we believe we are uniquely set apart to assist ministries who desire to offer a viable solution to the public schools in their area. In the article, "Every Church Should Consider This," Pastor Doug Daniels shares how effectively these programs worked in his church. For those churches without sufficient academic staff, we have introduced School in a Box, where we bring the services of our accredited online school, Alpha Omega Academy®, to the church.

For the past several months, we have conducted meetings with leaders from Christian schools nationwide, many of whom have caught the vision to utilize Switched-On curriculum to expand Christian education beyond their walls. One school leader recently shared his aspiration to use Switched-On to start "satellite schools" in churches hundreds of miles from his facility.

Yes, Bauchman and Shortt tried it again, and we thank God for their efforts. May church leaders and parents across the nation heed their message and take action to end this onslaught occurring against their children.
