Cedar Park Christian Schools have a mission to be an institution where "changed lives are changing lives." To best accomplish that goal, Cedar Park made a change from a traditional curriculum. After many graduates of their schools informed them of the emphasis on technology and online learning in college, they decided to make a change to the Switched-On® curriculum from Alpha Omega Publications®.
Accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International, the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools, the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools, and the state of Washington, Cedar Park Christian Schools have six campuses and over 1,800 students. They have been using AOP's Switched-On curriculum for over seven years in a variety of ways. They primarily use the curriculum in their middle school as a requirement for their history courses; however, they also offer Switched-On courses at different levels for remedial assistance and advanced students. In addition, the curriculum provides solutions to scheduling conflicts.

Katie Gallaher, an administrator at Cedar Park, said that students with different learning styles have had success with Switched-On that they didn't have in a traditional instructional setting. Katie specifically mentioned one student whom she had taught as a history instructor in a traditional classroom. Two years later, she supervised the same student in a Switched-On computer lab. While the student barely passed in the classroom environment, he was one of the top students using Switched-On. In addition, his self-esteem and his awareness as a student increased dramatically.
Cedar Park has benefited in many different ways from using the Switched-On program in their schools. In what ways does your Christian school use Switched-On? Take a minute to share your uses and goals for the Switched-On curriculum in the comment field below.
