School Messenger - Got Hope?

For the past 20 years, a beacon of light has shown the way for Christian students enrolled at Lighthouse Christian School in Columbia, Tennessee. It seems fitting somehow, that this year's theme is "Got Hope?" At Lighthouse Church and Christian School, they deliver hope for the future.

Rebecca Brinkly attended Lighthouse Christian School and now works there as the administrative assistant. She started using Alpha Omega's Switched-On Schoolhouse® curriculum as a junior in high school at Lighthouse and credits the computer-based lessons with teaching her valuable computer skills that she uses to this day.

Lighthouse Christian School has been using AOP curriculum to educate its students for the past six years. Kindergarten, first, and second grades use Horizons for spelling and vocabulary, phonics, reading, and math, while they use LIFEPACs for their science, Bible and history and geography courses. Once the students start third grade, they move on to technology-rich Switched-On Schoolhouse.

A small school, Lighthouse has ten students this year in grades one through eight, though normally they have high school students as well. The school is located on the same lot as the church, and the two are heavily interconnected. From Rebecca's perspective, the close-knit church and school foster a strong sense of community and family within the congregation. This, she says, leads to not only strong, healthy spiritual nourishment of the children, but also the edification of the whole congregation. Alpha Omega Publications' curriculum makes this possible by providing a Christ-centered educational program that is also affordable for a small congregation.

Children are a priority at the Lighthouse Church and School. Its leaders realize that a child's behavior and world view are strongly influenced by schooling. Proverbs 22:6 tells us that when you instruct a child in the ways of the Lord, that child will live out that Godly instruction even when he is old.

Christian schools are a key means of instructing children in the fear of the Lord. One study showed that of 1,000 20-29 year-olds, 95 percent went to church regularly during their school years, and only 11 percent continued attending church during college. This disturbing statistic emphasizes the need to train our children in Christian schools and like Lighthouse Christian School, offer hope for the future.

At Alpha Omega Publications®, we are excited and humbled to partner with schools just like Lighthouse Christian School in training children in God's ways. How do you use Alpha Omega Publications' curriculum to further the growth, both spiritual and academic, of your children?
