School Messenger - May 2009

Are your children living in a post-Christian America? Consider these startling statistics that reflect what the United States of America has become:

• The percentage of self-identified Christians has fallen ten points in the past two decades (2009 American Religious Identification Survey).
• The number of people describing themselves as atheist or agnostic has increased about fourfold from 1990 to 2009 from almost 1 million to 3.6 million (Pew Forum Poll)....

The 2009 Easter week cover of Newsweek spurred an ongoing controversy with its cover page and accompanying article. Set before a black background, written in bold, red letters, and shaped in the form of a cross, the title proclaimed "The Decline and Fall of Christian America." As with most cover stories, the article was rather lengthy, and though it attempted to be neutral, it clearly bore the stamp of the author's personal perspective. A referendum to deter abortion in the state of South Dakota may have been defeated this past November, but a Christian school student was not. While our current leadership attempts different ways to fix the problems, we realize that moral soundness through Jesus Christ is the only answer. Along with all the wonderful knowledge Christian schools bestow to students, character development is crucial in building the next generation in wisdom instead of pride. Here are a few ways to make your classroom a bulwark for integrity....

Alpha Omega Publications is pleased to inform you that the dates and location for the 2009 Switched-On User Group Meeting have been finalized. From October 12-13, we will convene in beautiful San Antonio, Texas, for our 3rd Switched-On User Group Meeting. We were pleasantly pleased with the overflow crowd that attended our last meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, and we are making plans for larger meeting rooms to accommodate our Christian schools. Not only will this be a great opportunity for you to meet face to face with our developers, but it will also be a time of inspiration and relaxation for your entire staff. Plan now to attend and make sure to mark these dates on your calendar for the 2009-2010 school year.
