At Lakewood Christian, almost half of their students receive McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities, a statewide program that gives parents a choice where their child receives specialized education without the financial burden normally associated with it. Sadly, these children are often labeled as "unteachable." However, at Lakewood Christian, these students are working at their own levels at their own pace, and the school is able to accommodate their learning disabilities. In fact, not one of their students is failing!

In preschool through 2nd grade, Lakewood Christian uses AOP's Horizons curriculum, which they have used since the school started. Shirley said that Horizons does an excellent job of preparing their students for 3rd grade when they move into Switched-On Online®.

From 3rd through 8th grade, students use the Switched-On Online curriculum. They began this program two years ago, and it went from 15 to 26 students in one year. The curriculum works well for their students because they can work at their own levels without worrying about the pressure to keep pace with others.

In addition, Ron and Shirley recently discovered AOP's ARC Achieving Reading Comprehension®, and they are thrilled to offer this reading enhancement program to assist students who are struggling with their reading comprehension!
