Summer vacation has come and gone. Soon your students will be leaving their parents and guardians to be under your tutelage every weekday for the next 9 months. Borrowing the title from one of the more popular contemporary books on spiritual living, may you as teachers have a renewed vision to make your classroom a Purpose Driven Classroom. There is no better way to accomplish this than to remind ourselves of some key scriptures concerning education.
Teach Diligently
"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
First and foremost, God's Word needs to be in ".thine heart:.." Then and only then can we as educators "...talk of them .when thou walkest by the way..." with your students. Facts and figures are important, but as one scholar said, "Knowledge without character equals pride." Let us purpose to take full advantage of the freedoms we have to diligently integrate God's Word into everything we teach. Then the end result will not be students full of pride, but students full of godly wisdom.
Teach THE Way
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)
This verse has been used many times in reference to Christian education, and for a good reason. In this day and age of just letting kids do anything they want, let us purpose to train them in the way they should go so that when they are on their own, they will not depart from THE Way, Jesus Christ!
Teach the WORD
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But, his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law doth he meditate day and night." (Psalm1:1-2)
The Bible promises us so many blessings if we read, memorize, and meditate on Scripture. Your students are blessed to be able to be in an environment where they can meditate on God's law day and night. Once they hide THE WORD in their hearts, they will become lights in this fallen world.
The Christian school experience is so crucial to this generation, and you are blessed with the opportunity to empower and encourage your students for eternity! Purpose to allow God to work through you every single day and someday you will reap bountiful eternal rewards.
